Dental practices have a legal responsibility to ensure the risk of spreading infectious diseases is prevented or minimised. The Dental Board of Australia sets a number of industry guidelines, in particular the Guidelines on Infection Control. Every practice must have an infection control manual that sets out the procedures used in the practice, adhering to:
Responsibility for infection prevention and control belongs to all practice members. While many activities such as cleaning, sterilising and storing instruments are often delegated to junior staff, accountability still rests with the clinician.
Amalgamate aims to raise infection control awareness for all practice members, while ensuring understanding of their individual and collective responsibilities.
